Mont des Arts: the museum quarter
It is a fabulous location in Brussels where the enthusiastic visitor can, in scarcely a few steps, cover the distance separating Permeke from Pierre Bruegel the Elder. In the space of a few hours, one can watch a Chaplin film and attend a concert by a globally renowned tenor. Alternatively, one of the largest collections of musical instruments in the world can be admired there. Those with a thirst for history, meanwhile, will be drawn towards the relics of the Palace of Charles Quint, the priceless ancient printed books of the Royal Library, or the manuscripts of the State Archives. This extraordinary place is the Mont des Arts.
More than ever, it is reinforcing its status as a major tourism and cultural centre, not only for the Brussels-Capital Region but for Belgium as a whole. The institutions found there, all contain thousands of wonderful treasures showcased with real enthusiasm and dynamism. And that’s not all, for among the projects "in the pipeline" and on the point of completion are the future Magritte Museum, the Art Nouveau collections, the reopening of the Palais des Congrès (SQUARE, Brussels Meeting Centre) and the creation of a proper visitor centre for the Brussels-Capital Region...
The Mont des Arts is well worth a lingering visit, for there you will learn a great deal and obtain an enormous amount of pleasure. It is the point of entry par excellence for a marvellous stroll at the heart of Brussels on which I am delighted to be able to invite you.
Charles Picqué,
Minister-President of the Brussels-Capital Region
